Does It Work

The Research Is Better Than People Expect

For most of what brings people to therapy, video sessions perform about as well as sitting in a room. Anxiety, depression, PTSD, and stress have all been studied this way, and the outcomes hold up.
Where it works well
Individual work with adults and teenagers. Couples sessions, including when the two of you join from different places. Trauma processing, EMDR included, which surprises people.
Where in-person is better
Young children, who need a room with toys and a therapist who can move around with them. Anyone in crisis or actively unsafe. Some assessment work that needs specific materials in the room.
What we do about it
Your therapist tells you after the first session whether they think online fits what you’re working on. If it doesn’t, you’ll hear that instead of being kept on the schedule.

Online or In Person

You Don't Have to Pick One and Stick With It

Most people who start online end up doing both at some point. Both options run out of the same practice, so switching doesn’t mean starting over with someone new.

Start Online, Come In Later

Plenty of people book the first session over video because it's easier to say yes to. If you'd rather start in person after a few weeks, say so and we'll move it.

Switch Online When Needed

A snowstorm, a sick kid, a work trip, a month where coming in person is the reason you'd skip. Same therapist, same time, different screen.

Mix Them Week to Flexibility

Some clients start in person twice a month and video the rest. Your therapist keeps one record and one treatment plan either way.

What We Work On

Everything We Do in the Office, Except the Youngest Kids

The full practice runs online. Pick what fits and the page will tell you more.

1

Children

Video works less well for the youngest kids. Our child therapy runs mostly in person, and we'll tell you which your child needs.

2

What if the Connection Drops?

Your therapist calls you. That's arranged in the first session, so nobody sits there wondering. A session that ends early because of technology gets rescheduled, not billed.

Teen Therapy

Teenagers open up more from their own room than from a waiting room chair.

What You Need

Less Than You'd Think

A phone, tablet, or laptop with a camera, and somewhere you won’t be overheard. That’s the list.
⌖

Anywhere in the state

Downstate, the northwest suburbs, or a county with one therapist and a six-week wait. If you're in Illinois, you're in range.

▣

Therapy That Fits Where You Are

Whether you’re at home, in your office, or anywhere across Illinois, your session should happen in a place where you feel comfortable and private. Our clinicians provide secure, flexible therapy designed around your location and your schedule.

⌖

A private hour

Most people use a bedroom, a home office, or a parked car. Headphones help more than a good camera does. If privacy at home is the problem, say so on the first call and we'll work around it.

▣

An Illinois address

Our clinicians are licensed in Illinois, which means you need to be physically in the state during your session. Not your billing address, where you are that hour. College students home for the summer count. The same student back at school in another state doesn't.

Insurance & Cost

Covered the Same as Sitting in the Room

Illinois requires most health plans to cover telehealth on the same terms as an in-person visit. Same copay, same deductible, same benefit. We check your specific plan before you book and tell you what you’ll pay.

Paying out of pocket

Sessions run [$X to $X], with a sliding scale available. Online and in-person sessions cost the same, so switching between them doesn't change your bill.

One thing to check

If your plan is self-funded through an employer, it may sit outside the state requirement. That's a two-minute call for us to confirm before your first session.

How coverage works

Is this actually private?

Sessions run on a HIPAA-compliant platform, not a consumer video app. Your therapist takes the call from a closed office. The weaker link is usually your end, which is why a room with a door matters more than the software does.

Your therapist calls you. That’s arranged in the first session, so nobody sits there wondering. A session that ends early because of technology gets rescheduled, not billed.

Same as it would in the office. Your therapist asks what brought you in, you say as much as you want to, and by the end you’ll know what they think is going on and what the next few sessions look like.

People do, from a car or an empty conference room. Worth thinking about whether you’ll say what you came to say in a building where you work.

No. Our clinicians are therapists and psychologists, not prescribers. If medication is worth exploring, we’ll help you connect with a psychiatrist or your primary care doctor.

Yes, across all three clinicians, online statewide and in person in McHenry.

Same Therapist, Wherever You Are

One call sorts out which of the three fits, what your plan covers, and whether online is right for what you're working on. If it isn't, you'll hear that too.
